Thanks to G: They straight rocked! It was amazing. I can't even remember most because their stage presence was so powerful. Way to pull through on rocking and being bad asses. Thanks for the drum stick Matt.
Thanks to MK: Way to go! I'm glad that there is a band that has intention to rock and does so. I'm very tired of what everyone thinks rock is today. Korn, Slipknot -no Stones, Velvet Revolver- yes thanks to velvet revolver for rocking the right way. I showed up early and got in front, to the right. Cause I know that is where Slash sets up since '85. Touched his boot(nice leather)- Scott stood on the gate right in front of me, sweating on me. Being only fifteen, and Slash, Duff, Matt being my idols, this was a bad ass show. Thanks to Velvet Revolver for rocking!!!
Thanks to Jimmy Stack: Hey Slash, Dave, Duff, Matt and Scott. Your concert at the Warfield was the first concert I ever ever gone and you guys made it a great experence for me. I'm twelve and I play the drums. That was kinda random. I thought you guys were awesome. I loved moshing to all your great songs. Velvet Revolver has been my favorite band ever since the concert. I haven't been to any concerts besides this one but I can't imagine how a concert could be better. Scott the Vitamin Water you dumped on me tasted great lol. That was a highlight of the concert for me. ROCK ON!
Thanks to Chris: Rock and roll is back! That's what the boys kept on banging into our heads. They played the same set list as the other nights. 'Big Machine' is a great rockin' song. 'Fall To Pieces' will be a hit. They're all rockers. The crowd really got into the STP and GN'R tunes since we all knew them. During 'Brownstone', the top balcony was bouncing. I thought it was an earthquake at first, but after realizing it was in beat with Matt's drums, I bounced along too. Matt started Brownstone off with the drum fill that open 'You Could Be Mine' and then played the 'Brownstone' beat until the boys came in. 'Set Me Free' sounded better live. They do an extended ending that includes guitar solo tradeoffs between Slash and Dave. It was great. Matt's an awesome drummer. Kept the night going.
'Crackerman' was great. I think the STP tunes sound better with Slash and the boys then with Dean and Rob. Great way to end the show with 'Negative Creep'. Kept the crowd wanting more. It's good to see them in small venues because they're probably going to be headlining arenas after this. Gotta go, have to get my copy of Contraband!
Thanks to Lucho: The new songs sounded very good live....Weiland looks really thin, almost un-healthy, altought his voice was in fit form. Amazing versions of S.T.P and GnR songs ('Sex Type Thing', 'Crackerman', 'It's so easy', 'Mr. Brownstone' and 'Used to Love Her')....very dynamic, fun to watch show. It didn't blew my mind like Audioslave at the same venue in the same circumstances (new "super-group",new album, early dates of the tour, etc) but it's only the beginning and hopefully they'll stick together....no Soundgarden, no Rage, no S.T.P., no Guns....but this two bands are here to kick your &*#* and that's a good thing.
Thanks to Anders: It was a really good show, both me and my friend fuckin loved it! The opening act wasn't all that great... but they didn't suck ass either... we were down on floor, like 7 rows away from the front so when the show started I just pushed my way in to the front so I was really close! Scott gave me his cigarette!! Awesome!! I'm gonna bring it home to Sweden and put it up on my wall =)... a cool concert! I'm gonna see em in Europe too! Thanx!
Thanks to Sarah: I'm stunned. This was the best show I'd seen in a long time. I miss seeing Slash/Duff/Matt doing what they do so well, but seeing them with Scott was the icing on the cake! I love both STP and GnR and am really digging Velvet Revolver's tunes. I'm so stoked and can't wait to see them again!!!
Thanks to Son of Scott: Met the band before the show minus Scott which was cool but sucked because Scott has been my hero minus the herion for the past nine years. The other guys were so nice. Talked with Duff for 10 mins and he was so cool. Slash was hammered, lol. The show rocked...same set as we all know, which was still great. I had only seen Scott preform before with STP, 6 times. It was a different Scott, a driven Scott. Similar but different than "No.4" era Scott. Songs sounded great and the album is great. I would drop the STP and G'n'R covers just to lose all of those fans and to make only Velvet Revolver fans. That's just because I got crushed by fat old guys when "It's So Easy" started. lol. I loved it...I won't lie though, I miss STP. When "Crackerman" and "Sex Type Thing" were played they sounded great and heavy... but it wasn't the same without Dean, Rob and Eric. This band will go far if there egos or drug problems don't get in the way, which it doesn't apear they will. Take it from me, a major in Scott Weiland in college, he looked great and his voice sounded awesome! The highlights for me were hugging Slash, talking music with Duff, "Big Machine" and "Headspace".
Thanks to Jake: This show was a mixture of several different emotions. First, the guys came out rockin', but they also showed a beautifully diverse set with their ballads. Scott, of course, rocked the stage with his lyrics and custom stage moves. Slash and Dave ripped everything to shreds while Matt and Duff laid down some incredible and sensational groundwork for the band. Overall, I was very impressed and I didn't want the show to end.
Thanks to Amalia: Hot x-roses, still fragrant, and one damn sexy Peter Pan pilot rocked the Warfield! Axl who?? The long awaited clean re-birth of the amazing musicians/artists in Velvet Revolver were welcomed into the Bay Area with opened arms and horned hands. Good rock music is very rare in the made-up, wannabe, lipsink and hip-hop infested 21st century music industry, but Velvet Revolver served it up raw, straight and real with lots of wasabi. The way it should always be. Keep it up and hope to see ya'll again in SF.
Thanks to Umlaut: I was never into STP, but Weiland is an excellent front man. He's like a young Iggy Pop. This band definitely has that rock star charisma that is lacking in most bands today. The fact that most of the crowd hadn't heard their album yet made little difference. These guys are seasoned musicians who know how to work a stage and a crowd. It was also good to see a band enjoying themselves onstage.. None of that sad boy nu-metal crap. This band rocks in the old fashioned way!
Thanks to Justin: Incredible. Rock & Roll is finally back! These guys really showed why they are the most proficient band in the world right now. It is so great to see some fucking rock stars again. Every member of the band is incredible. Scott Weiland, in particular, has taken his game to a whole new level. If you have a chance to see these guys on the small theater tour do not miss it. I took my 8yo son. His first rock show and it's Velvet Revolver in a 2,000-seat theater. Unbelievable that they were able to smash through the barriers of skepticism and high-expectations. Finally a band that delivers.
Thanks to Cubsof89: Living Things started the night off. The music was pretty awesome but their 'Joey Ramone' wanna-be for a lead singer really hurt their performance. This guy tried talking to the crowd to hype them up, but he was 'eating' the mic everytime he talked as a result the crowd just stood there and looked at him. He tried way too hard with the stage antics. Taking off his shirt, throwing his guitar, and the whole time he was expecting something out of the crowd and the crowd just stared at him with blank expressions. He's an idiot. So anyway, great music, horrible stage presence, they need a new lead singer.
After about an hour's wait Velvet Revolver took the stage. Scott came out wearing his low cut jeans(they looked like red suade) a wife beater, black vest, scarf and police man hat.
Their first three songs were pretty great, but then when Scott said 'here's one you may have heard before' the crowd went nuts and out came 'Crackerman'. Being a long time STP fan I was a little dissapointed by the guitar solo. Don't get me wrong, Slash is amazing on the guitar, but sometimes his solo's don't fit in with the song. This was one of those times. He went off on his own little tangent while the band kept playing. Vocals were great all night.
My most anticipated song-'Fall to Pieces'- came a little bit later.
Scott started off by asking a guy in the crowd if he's ever been told to get out, by his lover. He then asked the guy if the woman took him back. After that he went on about how this next song is about him wanting to get back in, because he 'fucked up' and missed her. 'Fall to Pieces' was great. You could feel Scott's emotion in this one. After the song Slash came over and hugged Scott.
There seemed to be some technical difficulties during 'Big Machine'. Scott went over to a keyboard to play some tunes, but it wouldn't work. He probably spent about two minutes over there trying to get it started, but the crowd couldn't hear anything from it. But the show goes on!
'Set Me Free' made the crowd go nuts!!!! This one showed what Slash was made of.
Afterwards when Slash came back out for the first encore he grabbed a top hat off of a speaker and put in on(he had previously been hatless all night). The crowd exploded after this. They went into 'Used to Love Her', and then into 'Sex Type Thing'. Scott owned the crowd at this point. When the band went off stage waiting for another encore, the crowd was the loudest they'd been all night. Then the drums started out with the beginning to 'You Could Be Mine' but then transformed into 'Mr. Brownstone'. The crowd was pumped for this one, then came 'Negative Creep'.
You could tell that much of the crowd didn't know this song, so it didn't make for a great finisher, but I knew it from my good ol' Nirvana days and thought it rocked. Awesome show!
Thanks to S. Hanau: Would like to start off by saying I'm 20 and never had the chance to see the original Guns so this was something I have been waiting for a long long time.
After going to tonight's Velvet Revolver concert all I have to say is Guns N Who? Tonight's set was unbelieveable!!! New songs "Headspace", "Fall To Pieces", "Slither" and "Set Me Free" were all unbelievable live! The energy that was flowing between Velvet Revolver and the crowd was like an electric current going through the Warfield. Encore started out with Matt Sorum teasing us with a lil "You Could Be Mine" before launching deep into "Mr. Brownstone." Also STP favs "Crackerman" and "Sex Type Thing" were taken to the next level by this incredible band. Makes me want to forget both their former bands!!!! And that's saying a lot!
Thanks to James IV: That concert kicked major a$$! Those guys sure know how to put on a concert! The crowd was amazing! Everyone cheering and singing along to their songs. It was simply a great show. Living Things performed before Velvet Revolver. They were ok.....I mean it was something to entertain the crowd while they were finding their seats. They had a few good songs..I heard a few people booing at them...but I thought they were alright...they kinda reminded me of the Ramones...I guess they had that look to them.
Once Velvet Revolver took the stage..wow they had such a stage presence! Once Weiland threw up his arms..they began rocking! Since their album comes out June 8th...I have only heard a few songs from the new album. The songs such as 'Set Me Free' and 'Slither' were awesome! Weiland was all over the place. It reminded me of old times when he was in STP and he would spin and do all his moves on the stage. He hasn't lost a step! It's especially awesome when he gets out his megaphone and begins to belt out the tunes. You can just see him screaming in that thing.
Slash was awesome! It was great to be able to see him in such a small venue..very much up close and personal. The crowd went crazy when he came back on the stage with his signature top hat and he even had the cigarette dangling from his mouth. It was very much classic Slash! The rest of the band member looked great as well! They were at the top of their game and so full of energy just rocking out on the stage! What more could you want...
I thought it was one of the ultimate rock shows! Just seeing Scott Weiland singing right next to Slash...how amazing is that! The crowd new all the words to STP's 'Crackerman' and 'Sex Type Thing' as well as 'Mr. Brownstone', 'It's So Easy' and 'Used to Love Her'. It was just an amazing show that I won't soon forget! From the first song to the last....every second of Velvet Revolver's performance was a music adventure and a musical explosion! Way to go guys! You made rock n' roll exciting again!
Thanks to Jaan Hjorth: Great lights! Strong drummer! Good visuals, OK sound......... But was the material anything special? Dare I say the material was weak? Delivered with conviction, every one looked great, but I'm afraid the G&R covers were in another league & showed why G&R was the world class band we all miss. I'm not sure if Velvet Revolver would head for the top of the pile if they were from unknown parentage. Having said that, is anyone else doing any better? Nikki Sixx was in town last week and the Velvet Revolver show had a leg up on that one. I don't know that todays best is setting any new standards though.........
At least the Warfield sold out for a Rock & Roll show. That's good news. Bring on some Contenders!
Thanks to JT: Showed up at the Warfield around 8:00 looking for an extra general admission ticket for my buddy Bruce and finally scored one for $20 bucks outside the venue. Most guys were asking $100 and our patience paid off (just a little patience). Could hear Living Things playing when we walked in and chose to skip them and grab some beers. I don't think we missed much. We made our way down onto the floor and staked out a spot in front of Slash's mic stand. We met some pretty cool people down there including a little cutie named Heather, originally from Missouri, who stood all of 4'10" maybe and thought she would have a tough time seeing the band once the show started.
Finally at 9:20 the lights went out and the band came out to 'Sucker Train Blues' and the show was on. Scott, looking thin as a rail but sounding strong, (we were a little concerned because of the rumors floating around about him having bronchitis and cancelling in Portland a couple of nights before) at times was drowned out by the guitars but still belted it out. His stage presence was amazing, a cross between Jagger/Bowie/Mercury, much different from what I remember from him when I saw STP the only time opening for Robert Plant on their first tour. The Gunners were solid. I was impressed with how tight these guys sounded for only being together in this incarnation for a short time. Each song kicked ass, was not a dull song in the set. The Contraband tunes were all solid and played well.
Excellent licks by the Slashster, Dave Kushner ripped it up as well, Duff layed the beat and looked better than ever and Matt pounded the skins. Very, very impressed. The STP/GNR tunes got the most roar out of the crowd and always felt a surge from people behind me on those songs which are the same ones they have been playing on this tour. I've been seeing live shows since 78' when I first saw the Tubes and have logged well over 400 concerts in the time since and this one will stand out for a long time. How cool is it to see such a powerhouse group in an intimate setting a day before the debut album hits the stores!
