Thanks to Flo: It was the best day of the last 3 years I've ever had.I arrived at Columbia Halle at 12 o'clock and was sitting there with my cousin Martin (hey guy,`what`s up?). The sun was shining, the weather fine and we had some beer. 5 pm we saw the whole band coming out of their busses and we had the possibility to make some great photos. Later more and more people arrived and waited for the concert. We were the first...we stood in the first fuckin' rank and saw everything. Sorry, but I can't describe that feeling I had. I'm a drummer and a very big Matt FAN and I saw him...10 meters in front of me.....great! The show was absolutely the best concert I've ever been. I've seen by Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple live but Velvet Revolver...the best!!

So I want to thank the band for this day I will never forget.

Thanks to Curac: There are no words to describe this show. It was my first time I saw guys from GNR. I have Slash's, Duff's and Scott's autographs, Slash pick... I was standing in the
first row, amazing how they still playing with smiles on their faces. Slash is my GOD, this guy is awesome, solo behind head, solo on knees... everything you want to see. Setlist was the same as always, the only difference was the last song - Surrender. Awesome 80 minutes of my life. I travelled from Poland to see my heroes. I hope to see them in the future again.

Thanks to Christian Lang and the Aachener Zeitung: Mit einer explosiven Mischung aus Hardrock und Grunge begeisterte am Montagabend die neue Hardrock-Formation Velvet Revolver in Berlin ihr Publikum. Die Band ist eine Neugründung von ehemaligen Mitgliedern der Gruppe Guns N' Roses sowie anderen Musikern aus erfolgreichen Hardrockbands der 80er und 90er Jahre.

Die Musik: Laut, hart, schnell. Velvet Revolver klingt nicht wie eine 80er-Rock-Cover-Band, sondern entwickelt einen eigenen Stil. Die Band spielt Hardrock, experimentiert aber und zeigt Anleihen aus Grunge und Alternative-Rock. Gitarrist Slash hatte die Latte hoch
gehängt: «Ich will an der Spitze der nächsten Rock-'n'-Roll-Bewegung stehen.» Nicht im Programm sind ruhige Rockballaden, mit denen Guns N' Roses einst große Erfolge feierten.

Die Show: Sänger Scott Weiland hat seinen Beruf als Rockstar gelernt. Wie ein Derwisch wirbelt er auf der Bühne umher, mal mit mehr, mal mit weniger Leder bekleidet. Ausstrahlung und Stimme überzeugen. Auch Slashs Auftritt knüpft übergangslos an die großen alten Zeiten an. Unverändert ragt nur seine Kippe aus der schwarzen Lockenmähne, wenn er seine Soli spielt. Wehmut kommt bei Guns-N'-Roses-Fans auf, wenn er dazu noch seinen alten Zylinder aufsetzt. Doch der Hut blieb meistens unten, frischer Rock wurde geboten.

Das Publikum: begeistert und angenehm durchmischt, 2500 Besucher in der nicht ausverkauften Columbia-Halle. Von 16 bis jenseits der 50 war alles dabei, die Haare gern etwas länger, beliebt auch schwarze Kluft und Lederhosen. Die meisten Besucher waren um die 30, also Fans, in deren Jugend Guns N' Roses ihre großen Hymnen spielten. Mit dabei aber auch Altrocker mit Bart und Bauch sowie Teenies, die von Axl Rose wohl eher eine vage Vorstellung haben dürften.

Die Band: Velvet Revolver besteht vor allem aus ehemaligen Mitgliedern von Guns N' Roses (Gitarre: Slash, Bass: Duff McKagan, Drums: Matt Sorum). Sänger Axl Rose war schon vor geraumer Zeit im Drogen- und Psychosumpf versunken, hatte dabei aber den Bandnamen zum Leidwesen der restlichen Mitglieder mitgenommen. 2002 begann zaghaft die Neugründung, bei der schließlich Gitarrist Dave Kushner (früher Wasted Youth) und Sänger Scott Weiland (früher Stone Temple Pilots) die Band verstärkten.

Nach den gewerbeüblichen Drogenproblemen und Diskussionen um den Bandnamen erschien schließlich im Juni dieses Jahres das Debütalbum «Contraband». - Weitere Auftritte von Velvet Revolver folgen in den nächsten Tagen in Köln, Hamburg, München und Konstanz.

Echte Rockbands treten niemals pünktlich auf die Bühne. Als der Rock vorübergehend fast verschwunden schien, bemühte er sich bei den seltenen Konzerten noch um Zuverlässigkeit. Dann kehrte er manierlich in Gestalt dezent gekleideter Krawallbrüder zurück. Nun ist er wirklich wieder da: 3000 tätowierte Menschen warten in der stickigen Columbiahalle, Velvet Revolver werden musizieren, fünf einmal berühmte Rockstars, eine so genannte Supergroup.Das Arsenal der E-Gitarren ist gestimmt. Das eindrucksvolle Schlagzeug ist samt Gong verschraubt. Die Flaschen sind geöffnet. Aber mit den Stunden, die vergehen, wächst der Unmut. Ziehen die jetzt um die Häuser? Sind sie rückfällig geworden und wieder dem Drogenrausch erlegen? Gibt es Damen in der Garderobe? Erst als Schuhe auf die Bühne fliegen, greift die Band zu ihren Instrumenten. Nach drei wüsten Songs reißt sich der Sänger eine Militär-Schirmmütze vom Kopf. Scott Weiland brüllt, es täte gut, lebendig wieder in Berlin zu sein. So geht es immer weiter: Wahre Rockmusik bleibt eine ungezogene, barocke Kunst, die längeres Warten gern belohnt.Die Hauptdarsteller dieses Renaissancestücks: Gitarrist Saul Hudson, der unter dem Namen Slash selbst in den Polizeiakten geführt wird, und sein neuer Vorsänger Scott Weiland. Slash floh 1996 aus der großen Rockband Guns 'N' Roses vor dem irrsinnigen Sänger Axl Rose. Vor einem Auftritt rettete der Notarzt Slash einmal vor seinem zunftgerechten Tod an einer Überdosis Heroin. Er mäßigte sich, gründete eine Familie, fing an, Sport zu treiben, weniger zu saufen und steht nun, mit 39, eher als Klischee des Rockstars auf der Bühne. Dazu wirft er seine Locken über die verblassenden Tattoos der Totenköpfe. Arrogant schürzt er die Lippen, zwischen denen eine leichte Zigarette hängt. Und während Slash den Poser alter Schule spielt, verkörpert Weiland eher den Grunge, der Guns 'N' Roses vor zehn Jahren von der Bühne jammerte. Die Dekadenz wich damals einem tiefen Daseinszweifel. Daran starb die Grunge-Ikone Kurt Cobain, dass Weiland ihm nicht folgte, wird als Sensation gefeiert. Seine Band, die Stone Temple Pilots, wurde schwächer, je entschlossener sich Weiland seinen Süchten widmete. 2001 hat sie sich aufgelöst. Scott Weiland wurde in eine geschützte Wohnanlage eingewiesen. Aber ein Gericht hat ausdrücklich diese Tournee mit seiner neuen Band genehmigt. Weiland sagt, Velvet Revolver sei ihm nicht nur Therapie."Wir werden auch die größte Rockband aller Zeiten sein."

Zwei weitere Flüchtlinge von Guns 'N' Roses trafen Slash wieder bei einem Hilfskonzert für den an Krebs erkrankten Schlagzeugveteranen Randy Castillo. Durch ein Casting stießen sie auf Weiland. Es ist eine seltsame Fusion. Aus angejahrtem Hardrock, larmoyantem Grunge und Sündenstolz. Das alles dargeboten in einem Theaterdonner ohne die zuletzt beliebte Sicherheit der Ironie. Dazu gehören lächerliche Lederhosen und bedruckte T-Shirts ohne Ärmel. Dabei ist es unerlässlich, dass sich Slash gelegentlich seinen Zylinder auf die Locken setzt. Da ist es angebracht, den vom gelebten Rock 'n' Roll geschröpften Leib zu winden und hysterisch in ein Megafon zu röhren wie Scott Weiland. Alte Songs müssen gesungen werden wie"Plush" von den Stone Temple Pilots und"Sweet Child O' Mine" von Guns N' Roses.

Slash erklärt:"Ich will an der Spitze der nächsten Rock-Bewegung stehen". Es wird mehr auf sich geachtet in dieser Bewegung. Wer hinter dem unverschämten Breitwandlärm die aktuellen Botschaften vernehmen will, wird nicht enttäuscht. Zum Beispiel:"Sterben, während dein Gesicht auf T-Shirts prangt, ist wenig originell." Die Rockmusik wird streng moralisch. Dass sie wieder gern zu spät kommt, ist ein Ausdruck ihres neuen Selbstbewusstseins. Denn wer überlebt, hat Recht.

I'm from Poland. I came to Berlin with my friends few hours before show. We were in front of ColumbiaHalle about 18 p.m. About 10 meters from venue was fence and gate where Duff Slash and Scott came to fans!! Because there wasn't many people so every person could have a signature:) I even had a small talk with Duff which was my biggest dream ever:)

The show was absolutely amazing!! 1.15 h of pure great rock n' roll!! Slash, Duff, Matt, Dave, Scott didn't "give a fuck" and played the best show I've ever been to. They played 8 Velvet Revolver songs, 3 GN'R (It's so easy, Us
ed to love her, Mr. Brownstone) one STP, Negative Creep of Nirvana, and at the final one song that I know very well but can't remember the name:) I won't forget this day to the end of my life and I have one more dream now- To see those guys together once more!! Maybe in Poland...

Thanks to Maciej: Hey, I write you a day after Velvet Revolver played a gig in Berlin and I can tell you - I wish it was Monday the 16th again. First of all there was a nice meets & greets with Slash and Duff. I was surprised how positive there were about all the people around. They laughed because there were a lot of people that came from Poland (so good to see you guys!!!) where they actually do not play on this tour, but all were inviting them. In Poland there is a lot of people waiting for Velvet Revolver's show and I believe now the musicians will know how high our anticipations are. Then Scott appeared and I was very lucky to have a short talk with him. He said something like they plan the next european tour next year in the eastern Europe countries like Poland, Czech and Hungary. I hope they will.

So it was a great pleasure to see the guys but what happened then was like a big fest, something I have been waiting for so many years. But first of all I have to tell the concert was pretty late - it was like an hour between the support had finished and Velvet Revolver started. In the end people were very impatient, and I liked the enthusiasm when someone from the crew put the famous tophat on Slash's columns. And then the concert...it was just amazing. When they started the audience went absolutely crazy and I felt like fighting hard to survive right next to the scene. Sucker Train Blues is like created to open the show and to feel the fever - probably even better than Purple's Highway Star. Yeah much better - I can still feel like my hands are shaking and the brain is frying.

The whole band was very energetic and looking truly-enjoying the show the were doing. I liked these little typical-concert-extras like Slash's talk-box solo under that groovy rhythm (Illegal i Song sounded much better than studio version for me. Then STP's Crackerman and Sex type thing with Scott whispering in his trademark-megaphone >here I come I come I come<. Something perfect.

Besides that I really liked the rhythm section. Duff is doing such a great job and gets in the groove with Matt's drums - I knew that he is a good musician but I did not expect how hard he is controlling the beat of the whole show. What is really good about Contraband are the bass lines, and this was very >hearable< on the show. I feel also very positive with Dave producing a real wall of sound with his green Fernandes.

Slash was almost everywhere on stage, moving all over, playing with the clear sound during the second encore - Used To Love Her - it was like a big picnic with such a positive energy mixed with this ironic text that Scott sang lying on the floor looking like fully relaxed.

The chorus in Slither sounded like an anthem with the whole room singing. I enjoyed German, Norwegian and Spanish people around me knowing all the lyrics. I had lost my voice almost completely and brought it back today in the morning.

Looking back now I know missed Spectacle, Superhuman or Dirty little thing, but on the other hand there is always something we have to miss. Oh yeah and in front the acoustics were terrible and anyway I know it was one of these concerts one can remember for good. Right there in the right time bringing back the faith in all that's best in rock'n roll music.
