Thanks to Stew: I saw the show and to me it wasn't as bad as some people claim. I for one thought Velvet Revolver put on a fantastic show.I was in front of Slash in the first few rows. Ya ok someone pissed Scott off but hey this was a festival with a whole lot of different types of music and for me personally I hated the music that all the other bands played and I had to wait 6 hours just to see them. LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL
Thanks to Chache: There were a few fuckers who were crying "Guns 'N Roses!" And I saw Scott who turned very angry! Only Slash said with a big smile:"Velvet Revolver is much better!" I understand Scott and Co that they got furious! Hey Man they aren't GNR! Velvet Revolver is Velvet Revolver and GNR is GNR! They don't want to be compared with AXL and Co. GNR is dead! GNR without Slash and Duff can't be GNR!
Besides that, it was a great concert! I always wished to see Slash and Co live and I was definitly not disappointed. When I saw Slash it was like I saw a God on the guitar! Great Great! I wish the band good luck and hope to see them again next time!
Thanks to "Random Idiot": After 'It's So Easy' Scott was very pissed because he heard some people shout 'Guns N Roses'. Then he threw the megaphone towards the crowd and said 'if you want to hear a GN'R song, go on stage and sing it yourself'. If I saw it correctly, perhaps one of the guys who got hit by the megaphone even showed his middle finger to Scott then. After the incident Scott went in front of the tribune and said something like 'We got 10,000 true Velvet Revolver fans here and one asshole. Show me whether you're a friend or an enemy.' Then he demanded the audience to applaud him. Later he added 'In this new band no one is being fucked with'.
Clearly a part of the audience was under strong influence of alcohol and cannabis. Maybe that explains a lot.
It seemed that one of the band members (either Kushner or Duff) intentionally detuned his instrument. The sound obviously got worse after the first couple of songs. Slash made fun of his own 'guitar god' image. For example, he played his guitar on his back and violently broke a string. However, although the band seemed quite upset and there was a negative mood, it still was a great show. Easily the best on this whole day.
What I really don't understand is why shouting 'Guns N Roses' has to be an insult against Scott and the new band. Can't it simply be a compliment which states that Velvet Revolver also has all the energy and qualities which made GNR so great? Amongst other things?
Thanks to Ingo, this is a fan report that was sent to him: They played no encore. Scott was going overboard while they played Sex Type Thing. Some "fans" were chanting "Guns N' Roses" and Scott went off nearly like Axl in St. Louis 1991. Scott threw his megaphone towards those fans. I don't know if this projectile hit anyone, hope it did not. In Sex Type Thing there is this part of Scott using his megaphone. Instead of using one he said something like "What we've got here is failure to communicate, 1000 friends and one enemy". He also told those chanting fans to get on stage to sing theirself if they want Guns N' Roses. After Slither they left the stage without saying anything.
update (8/29/2004): After It's So Easy the yelling began. The whole band was standing in front of Matt's drumset. There were Velvet Revolver shouts, too. Scott told those Guns N' Roses yellers to come on stage and sing if they want Guns N' Roses. Finally Scott took one of his megaphones and threw it with a lot of power into the crowd towards those Guns N' Roses yellers. The megaphone was damaged but it seems that nobody got hurt. Then Duff went towards those idiots and told some guy who acted the big shot to shut up and come on stage to get his ass kicked. Slash said something, too, but my friend didn't understand it. Then the band continued the show with "Sex Type Thing" and Scott said "what we've got here, is failure to communicate....we´ve got 10,000 friends and one enemy?" He did a real rant which he dedicated the person who started shouting Guns N' Roses. My friend did not get his words, too bad. Afterwards the played "Slither" and threw some pick into the crowd and then they left.
