Thanks to Ryan Morse: Wow! The most kick ass concert that could have been put on was by Velvet Revolver. Scott playing an STP song was mind blowing and Slash is an absolute genius on the guitar. This band will be around as long as they choose to be.

Thanks to Mike Lambert: It was a night of transcendant rock and roll - music to take you to another plane, cortesy of the Concorde. I had never seen either of the bands that begat Velvet Revolver and maybe that's a good thing. It allowed me to go in (relatively) baggage-free and judge the music and performance on it's own merits and what a show it was! Scott Weiland struts like Mick, poses like Plant but manages to do it in a style all his own. He was in great shape physically and vocally; he grabbed the audience by the throat, kicked them in the balls and dared them to ask for more. With a manic look in his eyes, it was clear that the hazy days of stupor were finally over; he was a man on a mission to rip your face off, and, by God, you were going to enjoy it. Slash stormed the stage with his game face on, which consisted of dark sunglasses and the ever-present Camel dangling from his lips, Keith Richards style. While his on stage moves are reminiscent of the greats that came before (Joe Perry cool, Chuck Berry duckwalk) there is no doubt that he posseses a singular vioce on his instrument. When you hear him play, there is no doubt who it is. Tonally Slash tends towards the trebley side of the humbuckers but it is never thin or grating, just biting. I was surprised to see him start the show with the red BC Rich, but he quickly switched back to the tried and true Gibson Les Paul and stayed with it most of the night. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the evening was the vocal prowess of Duff McKagan; I had no idea he could actually sing, but he held up his end of the backing vocals admirably. Visually, the stage and light show was stunning - a variety of robotic lights framed the stage alternately as a red light brothel (complete with the dual Jelly Bean Girl backdrop) and prison bars with lots or vertical strobing to create a frentic, speedball effect. There were few surprises - the band plowed through almost all the material on Contraband and threw in a letter perfect version of "Sex Type Thing" that received the loudest ovation of the evening. Surprisingly there was little stage banter with the crowd from Scott Weiland and no mention of GnR or performance of any songs from that band. This was a real pity because if anyone could lend street cred to "Mr Brownstone" it would be Weiland. While I throughly enjoyed the preceedings I never felt like the band was really connecting with the audience and vice-versa. Perhaps the (mostly) younger crowd that came to see Seether, Papa Roach and Story Of The Year was a bit awestruck at the sight of honest-to-God rock stars. Maybe the crowd was burnt out after a full day of urban-guerilla rock-n-roll. Maybe the audience was just being polite, never exploding like the fury onstage they were witnessing. As for myself, the show lived up to the hype of the word "Supergroup". The band has jelled into a cohesive unit in their short time together; a few months on the road and these battle hardened vets are ready to blow away any targets in their path. I just hope that they don't flameout before their sophmore effort.

Thanks to Rykrot: Velvet Revolver kicked so much ass its unbelievable. They are the greatest entertainers eva! The crowd loved them and they knew just how to play them.......Scott was great!

Thanks to Melissa: Velvet Revolver put on the best damn rock show you are ever gonna see in your lifetime. The band sounded great and Scott only gets better everytime I see him. My friend and I have been to every show Scott has ever played in Houston and he never fails to amaze us. We were in the front row, to the left and the band worked the stage like they were born up there. Really, if you are not a big Velvet Revolver fan, go see them next time they come, you will change your mind.

Thanks to Dustin Beard: This was a great show. Scott just was on fire and so was everyone else. There was a trouble with Scott's monitors all night, but since I was in the front row it wasn't really a big deal because I could hear almost everything fine. At one point Scott and like 3 or 4 roadies start turning one of Scott's amps to face the crowd. I was wearing my peaked military hat like Scott's and he kept looking at me in the front row, looking at my hat the whole show. Then during Sex Type Thing we like made eye contact and he sang 2 or 3 different time whole chorus looking right at me and me screaming the lyrics along with him. Also thanks to a clothing company closely affilated with Velvet Revolver and them having the best customer service in the world! I got to attend the meet and great with the band. Although Scott wasn't there, the rest of the band was. Just shaking everybodies hand and saying hello was awesome. Slash's is like a walking god. Duff is the man and I finally told him how he inspired me to play bass. Dave was funny with all the poses he was doing for pictures. Matt was so friendly! On the way out he stopped and talked with me and my little sister again. He singled us out on the way out. Matt was super cool. The whole band was.

Also backstage I asked a record company rep. if he knew when the Velvet Revolver show from the last Houston show was going to be released on DVD, seeing as the taped it in all. He said he was pretty sure before Christmas! It was my little sister's birthday so for her getting to meet Duff was just amazing. She has poster of him all over her room. She was just awe struck. The concert as a whole was bad ass. Just about every band sucked there and I payed 270 just to stand front row Velvet Revolver, but ya know what! I met them! I actually met them. Thanks to Anthony and Beth of Velvet Revolver for making our night. Last time they were in Houston, I was talking to this girl out by their buses and she was warming up to me...and Anthony came out and invited her backstage...totally cock blocked, haha! However; it's okay now! They made it up to me big time. Newayz tonight was amazing! The set design was neat, even though it was a festival. They still had the "Rock N Fuckin Roll" banner and that banner alone is enough it says it all. Although I would've loved to hear "No More, No More" and they had the lyrics taped to their front monitors. No luck, but there is always next time! When Scott was coming off stage they covered him with the Velvet Revolver logo cape! That was awesome. Also I met a young canadian fan named Rory (hoped I spelled that right mate) who has been following them all over and been to 7 or 8 shows. So when I was able to go backstages I was able to bring him along even though I only knew him 2 minutes. I figured anyone that is that big of fan deserves to atleast meet them. Hey atleast I'll get some good karma for it right? Amazing night last night, just insanely awesome. Can't wait to see them come back and watch that DVD!
