Thanks to ShadyBB: A wise rocker once told me rock-n-roll is a young man's game; for an hour & a half at the acoustically challenged Austin Music Hall, Slash, Duff, Weiland & the boys proved that age still trumps beauty. This show had all the trappings of an old-school rock concert: strobe lights, multiple stacks of Marshalls, slutty chicks, a big Zildjian gong behind the kit (thanks Bonzo) and of course, the old hippie roadie constantly running back & forth from the side of the stage. But from the beginning of the show, when the house lights went down and Duff McKagan climbed up on his monitor to begin the opening cords of "Sucker Train Blues", this show was nothing but straight ahead hard rock and in some cases it entered the realm of mid-1980's heavy metal. As the rest of the Velvet Revolver rhythm section joined Duff and jumped into the set (with Slash playing a black bat-winged looking BC Rich), the crowd began to jump/mosh/sway in perfect harmony. With a backdrop of two rows of strobe lights behind the band blinding half the audience, the show had officially begun. No disrespect to the opening band, the tight and well-received Burden Brothers, this crowd was here to see Velvet Revolver and from my vantage point (about 7 rockers deep in the pit) they knew every word. As the song started to shift into gear, Scott Weiland entered from stage left. He looked like a cross between Rob Halford and Hunter S Thompson, with the biker motif in full affect. Then he began to rumble the first set of lyrics,"Hands are shakin' got your finger on the trigger" and it was off to the races. The next song up was "Do It For the Kids" with Weiland yelling through a police megaphone, "Went to fast I'm out of luck and I don't even give a fuck", followed by a wall of sound as Slash and rhythm man Dave Kushner (Duff's old pal and ex Wasted Youth axeman) began to pound their Les Pauls. Matt Sorum beat the intro into the next song,"Headspace", which may have been the best song of the set and once again the strobe lights started their assault. The light show was phenomenal, and I'm sure those who dropped hallucinogens got their money's worth. By this time, Mick Jagger, um, I mean Weiland, had shed his wardrobe except for his court jester trousers. After a brief moment for the band to suck down some water, they jumped into "Spectacle", with Weiland wielding the megaphone once again. A lot of folks think these guys may still be shooting the horse, but with the way Duff & Slash were running across the stage, the days of abusing hard dope look to be over. Duff was clad in the traditional Randy Rhodes/Eddie Van Halen leather vest, and was cut like a body builder. It appears as if Slash hasn't purchased a new set of leather pants since the late 80's, and after he took off his shirt, it was evident that he doesn't pound the corn squeezin's they way he used to. Slash had his own microphone set up on the side of the stage and between songs he's blurt out some one-liners that were lost on most of the crowd. Duff had his own mike as well and has a great live back-up voice, as does Matt Sorum. Its amazing how tight this band is live, with no awkward sloppiness or any missed notes. What is also amazing is that, unlike the bands these guys used to play in (including Sorum's stint in the Cult), there were no drunken on-stage arguments/fist fights/temper tantrums. At one point, Slash and Duff actually smiled at each other as they struck a great Zeppelin-esque cock-rock pose atop the main monitors during Weiland's self-descriptive "Superhuman". They finished the set out with three more songs from the new album, "Illegal i Song" and the power ballad "Fall to Pieces", which Weiland made reference to during the intro as "the slow one that's on the radio." For the final song of the set, "Big Machine" Weiland went into a raging diatribe about George W Bush (it was the night before election day after all), and the band blistered the song, with Duff singing backup "We're all slaves to the Bush machine".
After a short recess, Velvet Revolver sauntered back onto the stage and Slash grabbed his patented top-hat and sunburst Les Paul, grinning ear to ear as the crowd started to blow its wad. With no intro necessary, the band immediately jumped into GnR's "It's So Easy". Weiland hit every note and the place went bizerk when he screamed "it's so fuckin easy". Axl Rose phone home, cause you ain't missed by these boys. From there the band jumped straight into STP's "Sex Type Thing" with purple lights all over the place and the crowd jumping into a hard rocking neck pounding frenzy. They followed with "Set Me Free" from the new album and then Duff took the main mike to sing "Used to Love Her" (but I had to kill her) and the crowd sang every word with him. After another short break, they came back out and finished the entire show with the major label hit "Slither".

The songs still refer to the sex, drugs & rock-n-roll lifestyle that they embodied for so many years ("Getting high, crashing cars and makin mistakes"), but it appears now they are looking back to what was. Almost 20 years after these guys entered the scene, this ensemble of wedding band wielding rock stars can still produce relevant, hard rocking tunes; and even better, they can back it up on stage.

Thanks to Justin: Wow...just...wow... I went to the show in Dallas back in June and this show easily blew that one away. All the crazy lighting they had was amazing. Scott's voice were spot on and the rest of the band just lit up the stage. The first opening band was alright, but their lead singer didn't really seem very comfortable on stage. Then the Burden Brothers came out and the crowd went crazy, especially cuz they were back down here in Texas. Velvet Revolver kept the crowd waiting in anticipation for awhile, but when they came on...orgasmic experience. That's really the only way to describe it. Slash's pants ripped midway through the show so you could see his ass and a little more of Slash than one would care to see, but that just made him that much more of a badass. Duff was his usual, confident self and got the crowd goin crazy when he stepped out there and played the intro riff to Sucker Train Blues. The crowd overall wasn't that insane, as I was about 5 "rows" from the stage (really just people, not rows), but there were some definite headbanging moments that the crowd just ate up. Once Slash donned his signature top hat, the crowd went crazy again.
Once they finished their main set they came back and played their first encore. Scott and Slash both sat down on the amp at the very front of the stage to play "No More, No More" and it was just so amazingly awesome. They finished the second encore then came back and played Slither; a perfect way to end a perfect concert. Matt, as usual, being the badass that he is, took a few girls backstage right after the concert. I took my friend who didn't even like Velvet Revolver to this and he came out loving them...it's just amazing how much stage presence they have up there.

There is no way to describe it, I'll try to sum it all up...I got Scott's cigarette butt and Slash's too. ;) But I lost Slash's b/c this guy practically killed me to get it, but Slashs pants ripped and all the girls loved that haha. Slash was fucking amazing as always and looked like the living legend that he is, same with Duff (my then antiVelvet Revolver best friend soon became a huge Velvet Revolver Duff fan after seeing him) Dave, and Matt and Scott was insaaaaane he was good!! It was a fucking amazing and I know I'm saying those two words a lot but I can't describe it any other way! lol So sorry for that! I think they did like two or three encores I don't remember but that was the best night of my life- no joke :) Everyone go see them you will not regret it...I mean come on those guys rocked so fucking hard my anti-Velvet Revolver teeny bopper friends fell in love with them and now love rock-n-roll, lol so that just shows you how fucking great their show was!!Wohooooo :)!!!!!!

Slash's pants ripped but he didn't give a shit cuz he just kept on playing like a true God does, but it's not like it was a bad rip, in the beginning it was small then it kinda grew into like a medium rip,lol ...when Slash and Scott sat down together to do a rock ballad song Scott joked about it and asked him how his pants were holding up..(girls cheered) Slash laughed and adjusted himself, ha he's so cute - handled it like a pro!

Thanks to Ivonne Lopez: In the last 6 months I have gone to a shitload of concerts and Velvet Revolver's concert was the best concert I have ever been to in my whole entire life. I got to be in like the "2nd row" and just the fact of being like 8 ft away from them was the shit. It was the best fucking day of my life!!!!!! I was planning to go to their Houston concert, too bad I can't go. :(

Thanks to PaPaJames: I had been looking forward to this show for almost 150 days! And let me tell all that waiting was well worth it. The guys did one hell of a job. They kept the crowd energized never a dull moment. Oh man this was a fuckin' awesome awesome show! The crowd was into it, singing every song.. I know I was. At one point Slash put on a pair of old pants and everyone could see his ass and nuts! It was a fuckin' crazy show... loved it! The opening band sucked ass... I think they were part of the Gap Tour or something. The second band was badass (Burden Brothers)... the lead singer reminded me of Scott. Scott had a couple of messages for President Bush.. something like Fuck You! Good message. If you haven't seen the show yet and are reading this... highly highly recommend seeing them! Fuckin' awesome job, guys... awesome! Come back!!!

That venue really sucks! First time I have ever been there and I will never go back. They really tried to squeeze too many people in such a small space, that it was very uncomfortable and just all around not a place for a band of this caliber to be playing at!

But of the dozen or so concerts I have been to this year, this one was totally the best!
