Reviews (44) [ send in your own review/pictures of the Toronto show ]
Thanks to Danny Grimes: I had bought tickets for my little bro and my girlfriend to see Velvet Revolver in Toronto. We showed up extra early to get as close as possible to the stage. But to our dismay the concert was delayed for some time.
But let me the say it was sooo worth the wait. I expected the announcer to introduce the opening band, but to mine and I think everyone else's surprise, he announced "Velvet Revolver". The band opened with the amazing Sucker Train Blues, a perfect opening to a perfect show. I have never been to a concert so kick ass. Can't wait till they come back to Toronto. Keep on Rock'n Rolling boys.
Thanks to Jane Stevenson from the Toronto Sun: The fact that there was even a Velvet Revolver show last night at the Air Canada Centre is somewhat of a miracle.
Never mind that the hard rocking supergroup -- made up of members of Stone Temple Pilots (singer Scott Weiland), Guns N' Roses (guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, drummer Matt Sorum) and Wasted Youth (guitarist David Kushner) started a full hour later than scheduled.
Their trucks had only rolled up to the venue at 6:30 p.m. -- that typically happens first thing in the morning -- so the band's road crew scrambled to get the production in place and 11,500 fans good-naturedly cooled their heels.
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, we would like to apologize for being late," explained a free-wheeling and chatty Weiland about five songs into the group's hour-and-25-minute show.
"The U.S. customs held up our equipment at the fu--ing border because of who we are and what we are about! That is f--ing persecution! That doesn't have anything to do with the Canadians, that has everything to do with America today!"
Naturally, Weiland's ranting was wildy cheered for his pro-Canada, anti-U.S. stance.
Apologies aside, Velvet Revolver wisely decided not to waste any time on the music front.
The fivesome stormed the stage -- with McKagan the last to make an entrance -- amidst strobe lights and a trio of monstrously loud, pounding rockers -- Sucker Train Blues, Do It For The Kids and Headspace -- from their debut album Contraband.
Glammy Weiland and guitar god Slash, not surprisingly, proved to be the ones to watch, although McKagan, Kushner and Sorum were hardly restrained.
Weiland, who was initially decked out in a black leather jacket, a tweed poor boy hat and sunglasses -- all three of which he quickly discarded until he was shirtless -- was a constant man in motion. Either he was twirling around the stage showing off his head-bobbing, slithering dance moves or picking up a bull-horn to get his point across.
"Sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll, we have them right here in front of us," declared Weiland, a recovering addict whose frequent brushes with the law and rehab have often overshadowed his music.
The bushy-haired, black leather-pants-clad Slash, meanwhile, tucked into some mighty guitar solos during such Contraband highlights as Illegal i Song, Fall To Pieces -- perhaps the crowd's favourite of the night -- Big Machine, Set Me Free, Slither and GNR's It's So Easy, Used To Love Her and Mr. Brownstone.
When Velvet Revolver returned for the first of two encores -- by this time both a top-hat wearing Slash and McKagan were also shirtless -- the name of the band was finally writ large in red neon lights high above Sorum's drum kit.
But, by that time, they hardly required an introduction.
Certainly, Velvet Revolver's return to Toronto -- they first played back in May at Kool Haus -- succeeded on its own dramatic and musical merits.
Better late than never, as they say.
Thanks to Bob Rayner from The Toronto Star: He who laughs last, they say, laughs best.
So while Axl Rose burns through professional relationships and discarded tape at a heroic pace with a "new" Guns n' Roses that has, thus far, proven itself adept at nothing more than playing 15-year-old Guns n' Roses covers, his three scorned former bandmates presently renewing their lapsed acquaintance with platinum sales awards, radio airplay and the upper rungs of the Billboard charts in Velvet Revolver must be having a right chuckle.
Joining discarded Gunners Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum in their collective mirth and vindication, too, must be Scott Weiland, the fellow rock n' roll exile they've granted asylum as their frontman. Booted from Stone Temple Pilots last year after sabotaging a succession of albums and tours with arrests, stints in rehab and a couple of trips to prison, the charismatic singer has emerged (again) from the shadow of a career-crippling drug habit in fine, snarling form with his new gig.
The sum of these battered parts (which also factors in rhythm guitarist Dave Kushner) has, with its debut album, Contraband, produced one of the year's biggest surprise hits - a successful "supergroup" record that, in contrast most past products of such spare-parts unions, is also remarkably good.
Contraband might not be a classic on the level of Appetite For Destruction, no, but it is loud, dimwitted trash-metal fun and it sounds exactly as it should: Like Guns n' Roses fronted by Scott Weiland. Which, as it turns out, is a perfectly fine fit.
Granted, the past isn't quite done with the members of Velvet Revolver yet. Last night's performance at the Air Canada Centre was delayed an hour while U.S. Customs sat on the band's equipment at the border, an inconvenience Weiland would later blame on "who we are and what we're about."
The late start wasn't quite as spectacularly delinquent as, say, one of GNR's infamous, riot-sparking no-shows, but it did leave thousands of anxious Velvet Revolver fans milling about the arena for an eternity with nothing more to do than piss away small fortunes on "event" - priced draft and utter cries of "Guns-`n'-f---in'- Roses !"
And although any hard feelings over the delay were put aside during the intro to the night's steamrollering opener, "Sucker Train Blues," the horrendous sound - everything in the red but Sorum's buried drums, from where I stood - dogging the otherwise excellent performance for the entire night suggested the Customs snafu allowed for only a cursory sound check.
The painfully distorted roar coming through the PA made mincemeat of Weiland's vocals and rendered most of Slash's frequent, crowd-pleasing solos little more than squawks. But the band countered the technical troubles with a charged, swaggering performance that echoed the ragged, on-the-verge-of-danger feel of prime GNR during white-knuckled Contraband cuts like "Big Machine," "Illegal I Song" and "Set Me Free" and only eased off the throttle once to indulge in the delightfully overwrought power ballad "Fall To Pieces."
Weiland, gaunt and looking decidedly Bowie-esque, remains one of the most watchable showboaters in rock. He also did a pretty mean Axl, too, working the low register for a blistering performance of Appetite's "It's So Easy" that might have stolen the night had it not been followed swiftly by a bone-crushing, fully metallicized version of STP's "Sex Type Thing."
That the covers came off slightly better than even the smash Velvet Revolver hit "Slither" is evidence that the band has some work to do on its rather homogeneous songs. This thing has every appearance of a proper band, though, so if these cats can hold it together long enough to gel just a little more, they'll be laughing for a while to come. Sorry, Axl.
Thanks to jessica: My professional review will come later (I need a few days because I'm fucking speechless). Velvet Revolver killed it tonight!!! They were crazy awesome, nothing I have ever seen in my rock star show lifetime! Absolutely unbelievable!!! I will send in my official review in a few days because I can't think right now, I am still trying to comprehend Slash and the rest of the incredible band members. Scott is an incredible performer, unbelievable control over a crowd of 10,000! Velvet Revolver are true rock stars!!! Fucking unbelievable!! Honestly, you had to be there to understand the brilliance this band has. I absolutley fell in love with the show tonight your verrrryyyyyyyyy satisfied Canadian fan.
Thanks to Adam: The show was amazing the wait sucked. Oh well we got moved into kick ass seats right next to the stage. And when the lights went out I saw Duff and was going crazy. They played real good. Scott stopped to tell us why we had to wait and said he was told to hold the show to an hour but that didn't happen!!! Mr. Brownstone or It's So Easy I think were my fav songs Slash ripped them!!!
Thanks to The girl in fishnet: All I have to say is that was the greatest rock & f*ckin roll show I've ever seen! I got there at about 4 and waited in line until the doors for the floor opened. As soon as they let us onto the floor I quickly walked to the center stage and got front row! The guy with the awesome mullet was very entertaining and the security were a lot of fun while we were waiting for the band. As soon as the band came onstage Duff came right in front of me which was awesome because he's my favourite. Then Scott dedicated the song to the women and was like "this song is dedicated to you" and pointed directly at me! It was the coolest feeling in the world! Another awesome highlight was when Slash and Scott came and sat down and played "Used to Love Her" right in front of me!! After the song ended and the ash on Slash's cigarette was like 2 inches long, Slash tossed his cigarette out to me and I got it while it was still lit! All in all, the boys played great and Scott did a really good job singing the GNR covers! The only thing that was unpleasant was the amount of dick that got rammed up everyone in the front row's asses lol but after a Metallica concert in the pit I expected that! That concert is something I will definitely never forget!!!
Thanks to Tess Brennan: Velvet Revolver rocked. At first I didn't think that Scott really fit in and that Guns would have been better but now I'm not so sure. It was totally amazing I can't even descibe it and Slash was still jumpin around and playin great after all those years. Velvet revolver is right up there with GN'R and come hell or high water I'm gonna see them again.
Thanks to Jay: It was an amazing show. The music was so powerful in that typical rock kind of way. Slash was brilliant, Scott did an excellent job as frontman...the whole band gelled really nicely and I would love a chance to go see them again if they return to Toronto.
Thanks to Jenn_M: The most fuckin amazing concert I've ever been to. They were so energetic and fuckin crazy, you'd think they were still in their damn twenties. The worst part was probably the fact that I had to wait in the fucking crowded stadium for an hour before I could get into the stadium, cuz of the whole equipment border thing. But it was all worth it for the great show they put on. Slash, you rock my fuckin world.
Thanks to Joe Klotz: Fucking awesome!!!!!!! The only problem was the delay!! But it was worth the wait!!!!! Velvet Revolver rules!!!!
Thanks to Ahmad Issawi: Fucking amazing. Everyone says the sound wasn't great but the show was put on in like an hour. Velvet Revolver fucking rules.
Thanks to Julian: Holy fucking shit that show was amazing. I went to the show, they were late but shit happens. It was worth the wait my mind was blown away. I'm a huge Guns N Roses and Stone Temple Pilots fan. I am also a huge Velvet Revolver fan. Slash is the best guitarist ever and Matt Sorum is still awesome on drums since he was with the Cult. Duff is awesome and so is Dave and Scott Weiland is the best vocals they could have picked. It was fucking amazing and I would definitly go see them again. Peace
Thanks to Victoria: I never felt as exhilerated as I did watching a live show before. Velvet Revolver put on a performance that was stellar! They showed 10,000+ people what the true meaning of Rock N'Roll is. That experience was long overdue and I am truly greatful that I was able to be there to witness it and indulge in the heart and soul of sex drugs and rock n' roll!!
Thanks to flyerman sucks: Great show, crappy sound. One positive note was clothes-lining Flyerman on the floor during the concert. Too bad he got back up!!
Thanks to Caper: Last night's show was amazing, I was blown away by the music gods! Even though the show was late the crowd was very patient. It was a night I'll never forget! Although I agree that security must be tight at concerts, where my seats were (first row by the floor) I saw 2 kids approx 14 years of age jump the rail to get to the floor. About 6 security guards jumped them took them down, dragged them out in a headlock, arms twisted behind their backs, in obvious pain. From what I saw this was completely unnecessary as both kids stopped and did not even try to resist. They were not posing a threat to the guards or anyone else. So why such extreme force? But other than that the concert rocked! Their CD does not do them justice. If only they could take their live sound and put it onto a CD!
P.S. To the security staff and the manager I had spoken to about this incident - you suck!!!!! Rock on.
Thanks to Anonymous: If I was to give it a rating out of 10, I'd give it a 9 1/2. Overall the show was awesome, not only because it was my birthday but also because it was my first concert ever. Before last night I had never been to a rock show. I almost went to the Rolling Stones concert last summer, but I ended up not going due to lack of cash. Even though I accepted the fact that there will indefinatley never be another Guns N' Roses tour (the real GN'R) I still like to have some wishful thinking. That's all I have to say.
Thanks to Amanda Vincent: Was at the show last night in T.O. It rocked!!!! To say the least. This band is out of the works and they proved to be the best rock group to unite. They had an awesome show. Was a big G n R fan and liked Stone Temple Pilots, this union is amazing. Velvet Revolver rocks and I loved the show. Would definately go see them again!!!!
Thanks to Russ: A fucking great show! I didn't mind the wait, shit happens! I was on the floor in the very front of the stage in front of Scott the whole show. It was just like the show at the Kool Haus last May but the only difference was we knew the songs this time and the venue was bigger. Meeting Velvet Revolver at the Edge earlier in the day was amazing and meeting the Exies was cool too, even though they couldn't play because of the delay. Maybe the setlist will be much different too when the 2nd album comes out. To Velvet Revolver, the city of Toronto looks forward to your return in the near future and you guys are one of the last great rock bands in the world!! Keep up the good work and try and tour the east coast of Canada in the future. Trust me, you have a lot of fans out there too. Have a good one guys!!!
Thanks to Matt: That was amazing, screw the two hour delay, it was so worth it. Slash was the highlight of the night for me. The solos were unreal. The only prob was that it took Slash too long to bring out the hat. Duff was always amazing. Sorum did his thing to perfection and Scott I did not realize what a great performer he was till last night. I also was amazed with Kushner's guitar skills, Slash outweighs him by a lot but he does his job well. It was a great night.
Thanks to Rob Russell: The show was amazing ... a lot of people during the delay were complaining but they quickly forgot about it when the show started. They played a amazing set and Duff let us smoke his cigar. He handed me a pick. This is by far the best show I have ever gone to. Slash was full of energy as always and Dave handed my buddy his pick. They are the type of band that cares about their fans and make sure that they put on a great show for them. I was front row and the wait was only about 5 to 6 hours. It was totaly worth it. But I'm going to stop rambling about it. Sorry I'm goin on but it was last night and I am still in disbelef that I touched Slash. Check them out if you have a chance, later.
Thanks to darcyb62: Just happened to be in Toronto and I decided to take in the show. The show started two hours late but nonetheless it was good. Better than I expected. The sound was pretty crappy for the 1st couple of songs, but tightened up and sounded pretty good by the end of the night. This could be my ears being numb by the end of the night, but if you consider they were still setting the stage up when I sat down. They probably didn't have a lot of time to go through the soundchecks (kudos to the soundman for fixing this while live). Being from Regina I don't get to see a lot of shows, but I did get to see Metallica in Saskatoon, saw Van Halen in Las Vegas and Winnipeg and finally Velvet Revolver in TO, the show sits smack in the middle of the Las Vegas and Winnipeg VH shows. This is rock the way it should be.
Thanks to Jack D: I am still dazed, I went into this show with high expectations and not only did Velvet Revolver meet these expectations, they went far beyond! I saw them in May, they were awesome, however the ACC show last night was one that got a hold of everybody who was there by the neck and said "This is what fucking rock and roll music is supposed to be, smarten up people". Everytime I've seen Scott Weiland, he never fails to deliver, he is truly the greatest frontman of his generation, drugs or no drugs. People who have thought otherwise and saw him last night, I think agree with me now. He puts a finishing touch on the GnR legends like no other frontman would be able to!!!!Weiland, you are the greatest, GN'R fucking rock harder than ever, Slash is a fucking icon and Velvet Revolver is here to stay! This show was truely enlightening!! Everyone, check these guys out!!!!
Thanks to Andrew Dunleavy: First time seeing these guys...the wait cause of the delay was brutal...but once inside..incredible!!! The guys came out with such a presence. Slash was in full guitar hero mode, smoke in mouth and all. Matt on drums was absolutely incredible, his solo where he played the intro to You Could Be Mine was amazing. Scott with the megaphone...ah man...too much to go over. Was hard to get to a good mosh pit cause I was right against the front rail centre stage. But by Set Me free I was right in there, with the exception of some girl kicking my friend in the nuts for bumping her and some dad threating people with karate moves, the mosh was pretty good, there were a good number of people who knew what was going on, and we made it the best time. My highlight of the night was crowdsurfing during Slither and making eye contact with Scott, memory for life...Thanks so much Velvet Revolver!!!!!
Thanks to V: It was intense, started late after the band was delayed at the border, no time for the opening act, they went onstage and assaulted the audience relentlessly, it was intense, I really didn't expect that level of intensity. The sound was off/no time for soundcheck, but it didn't matter. The main security was far too uptight: absolutely no room for discourse/interaction, the only element that was missing from such a seminal experience.
Thanks to wheezer: It's probably not the band's fault but the sound was horrible. You couldn't even hear the guitar solos although you could see Slash wailing! I talked to friends who sat in other parts of the arena and they had the same complaints - muffled, bassy, too much echo. The soundguy must have had ear bleed from the Chicago show.
Thanks to Neal Kloosterhof: Who cares if the band was held up and the show didn't start on time it was definitely worth the wait. Velvet Revolver put on such an amazing show that was full of so much energy and excitement. They proved why they are my favourite new band. I never imagined that Scott Weiland would be such a great performer live and I was amazed by seeing the guitar God Slash work his magic I haven't seen hime play with such soul, since the GN'R days. Duff is still the heart and soul. Matt was awesome and I never new much of Dave but he plays a mean guitar and was all over the place. It was just awesome! Set Me Free was definitely the hightlight of the night it was so cool seeing these guys live.
Thanks to Mia Gibson: This was my first concert and it kicked some serious fucking butt. The music couldn't of been better! Slash and ave could not have been hotter!! It was the best thing in by a long shot!! It was a great first experience O got beer spilled on my all I could smell was pot and I could just go on and on! I'm never gonna forget my first concert experience at the ACC with the best band of all time Velvet Revolver!
Thanks to Peter: Show was set to start at 7:30. Start time ended up being 9:45. The Exies did not perform, probably because they were still setting up the stage right up until 9:45. The sound for the first couple songs could have been better, because they had no soundcheck they ended up fixing it as they went along.
"Illegal i Song" was absolutely amazing. Dave had equipment troubles and immediately the band started playing a loop until the problem could be fixed (guy was swapping amps and Dave I think swapped guitars or at least he got rid of it at one point). When the equipment took longer to swap than expected, Slash started an improve and did things with that song you couldn't believe.
"Sex Type Thing" went extended. Half way during the song the crowd started to clap along with Matt's beat. Scott played with the crowd clapping for a 2 minutes.
"Set Me Free" was the extended version you can find on one of the import singles (live extended).
Before "Mr Brownstone", Matt did a little solo where he played "You Could Be Mine" for a good 15 to 20 seconds.
"No More, No More" was the only real surprise song that wasn't really expected.
Scott's Ramblings: He apologized to the crowd for starting late. He talked about how U.S Customs was holding back the equipment at the border because of who he was and what they were about. He bashed America because of what they've turned into recently (reffering to the change of society since the terrorist attacks). He also talked about how the promoters wanted him to keep the show to an hour's length (most likely because of curfew laws on events) but refused to go along with their demands.
Most Popular Songs (in no order):
1) Used to love her (Tied for Biggest Reaction)
2) Mr Brownstone
3) It's So Easy
4) Sex Type Thing
5) Slither
6) Fall to Pieces (Tied for Biggest Reaction)
Thanks to Bryce McDonald: The best show I have ever been too, I was right up front for the entire show and was blown away. The crowd was going nuts and the band played off of that feeling!! I can't put into words how good that show was! It was amazing to see Duff and Slash up there and Scott taking control of the mike. You guys rock and thanks Duff for the guitar pick!!
Thanks to Jonathan Starkes: First the day started at Edge 102 where the yukons pulled up and Slash stepped out and luckly where I was standin I was the first to greet him, unfortunatly my body was numb and I could only look at him in shock. Then we headed to the ACC where we ran into a delay which I think was great just made the anticipation build, also gave time for me and my buddy get nice and drunk. So we eventually got to our seats and the lights went out and that's when another indent in rock history was formed. Scott amazing front man 100% at all times even tho I've seen Axl perform to his greatest as well. Think they are pretty equal.......the band just clicked on stage and ripped the ACC down. Best song was No More, No More their Aerosmith cover and what topped that off was when Slash was spaced out in the solo and everyone was in amazement and he threw his guitar behind his head and continued to solo as he ran. The crowd went insane!!!! Like that blew everybodies mind....overall best night in my fucking life.....the show was unbelieveable. Nice lighting, the sound was perfect and Scott's voice was dead on and the guitar and bass work amazing sound. and Matt's drum intro also amazing. Anytime anywhere I wouild pay to expierence that again....thx alot.
Thanks to D. Horton: Hey it was fuckin' amazing! Hats off to the road Crew, fuckin' killer.Without you guys the show would not have happened. We took the young girls down to the show they got blown away. Scott and boys kicked fuckin' ass! Down to the bare bones, in your fuckin' face rock & roll. Very very cool.
Thanks to ^Gcarn^: Oh man, I'm in such pain. I had general tickets. Was working the floor the the fullest extent of my body. It started out, no opener, with Sucker Train Blues. The pit was tight...alot of people nodding their heads and clapping, but no real action.... I blazed doob number one. As Slash walked out on stage, he picked up the mockingbird guitar and ripped into it I knew I was in for a hell of a show. Scott walks out as his sexy self. I can honestly say, I have been to hundereds of concerts and I have never been so impressed by a frontman (minus RATM :P ). Do It For The Kids was solid. Then they ripped into Headspace... and I'll tell you.. people saw me.. and gave me some fucking headspace. I started moshing around to myself headbanging around (invisible glasses straps kick ass for headbanging) people looked at me like I was crazy... and I didn't give a fuck. A little later in that song... some of my fellow brothers of the pit joined in with me lightly.. it was a very pussy pushy pit. Still but I was banging my head away into a frenzy so it was all good. The pit was only like 5 people .... everyone else was still standing still and not jumpin or nuttin.. But then. Then.... oh yes then... I heard it Matt kicked off the beat and there it was, before anyone knew what hit them... Crackerman. About 10 seconds in I yelled oh fuck and started going nuts. Scott remarked something along the lines of it's time to really start this... and then my pit became real. It just took some old school STP. After Crackerman, I was dead. I was about to hurl and needed liquid, so I took a pit break and got a drink that I set aside by my bro and the soundboard, dropped off my shirt... and chilled outside the pit.
They did Illegal i and then Fall To Pieces. They really hit a spot with the crowd with the big single. They hit a spot with me too. It was amazing. Then into Big Machine. Defenetly one of my most favorites on the album. I blazed a few bowls during the begining and they broke the track down in a killer extended jam. Great lighting during that track too I remember. Then onto It's So Easy. You can't go wrong with the classic. Slash ripped up that axe. We were not worthy. Nuf said.
Then, once again.... it hit, Sex Type Thing. I stopped, turned ... took a dash... squeezing through the crowd.. working to the pit... and man was it worth it. After that rest..I was all up to it. Here I come I come I come I come. HERE I COME I COME I COME I COME. And the pit erupted..flying left center and right. You didn't know where they all came from.. but the pit was alive. It was like all the crappy audience disappeared.. and god said it was good. After that, I once again had to back out... chilled to Set Me Free, then they came back with Matt doing a drum solo. Blazed it up for that... his solo merged into the drum intro to You Could Be Mine... but then went into Used To Love Her. The guys walked out.. took a seat and did an amazing rendition of it. Again, seeing Slash plaing those classic solos was like dying and going to heaven. Then onto a classic Aerosmith cover, No More, No More... if I remember I think it was of Toys In The Attic. Anyways...it could have been a little better, but it was a nice followup to Used To Love Her. Then, I knew what it was time for. I knew.. I think the crowd did. I moved back into the pit, this time on the other side of the stage and we created something beautiful. My shirtless self and what looked to be like another 10 or so hardcore people came in for Mr Brownstone. And we be dancin.
Amazing moshing. Then Slither hit... with what seemed to be and extended intro... as the drum beat and Duff picked that line the pit stood still. Started across the 4 meters of empty concrete in front of us. Stared at our brothers of this pit across from us.. made eye contact... yelled, screamed.. waited. As the band built up, we built up. The moment that riff dropped. I may have been in the Slayer pit again... everyone and I mean everyone of the moshers dove in at full slamming force and people were flying over people. Surfers started going more. There were 2 maybe 14-16 year old girls standing at the edge of the pit. and whenever anyone would slam into them.. (its a pit, its un-avoidable if you stand there) they would scream at the top of their lungs in fear, make the most horrid face.. but not move:P. Anyways.. the pit continued when the song relaxed to wait at the edge of the pit... build energy.. make eye contact with your target on the other side. Wait for Scott to drop the word. Eye contact. Nod then and explosion. Defying all order, it was chaos.. a fury of slamming.
As the song ended.. the pit shared the love.. gave props and respect to each other. Then they did a bit of an outro drum bit and I slammed with one guy and I started going nuts cause the band was still going on there ourto noise kinda stuff and I just started headbanging and going nuts to the fullest of my capability. Suddenly before I knew what was happening the people in the pit lifted me up on top of them like a sporting victory and tossed me on top to surf to the front. As I did, I made eye contact with Scott. He smiled. It made my year. Thanks Velvet Revolver..truly beautiful
Thanks to Farmhouse: No Exies, no problem. Velvet Revolver came on 2 hours after the showtime. But the delay wasn't mostly the US customs. We got the inside scoop from a member of the ACC who said they opened the doors to the ACC, but not the arena so they could clean up on beer sales cause Velvet Revolver didn't sell the show out.
Regardless, the show was really good and even though I knew what songs they were gonna play and when they were going to be played, it still was a rockin' show.
Had the show been delayed anymore, my buddy's and I were gonna kick the crap out of some guy (only known as Flyerman) who was show-boating to the crowd with a jacket with flashing lights on it.
Thanks to Elizabeth: Like everyone said the concert was held like 2 hours later then it was suppose to. But itt was all worth it, it was my first real rock concert and I'm never going to forget it. Velvet Revolver has been my favorite band since their first single Slither. I was amazed by Slash's guitar ability it was just wow! And Scott's dancing it put shivers down my spine. Fall To Pieces made me cry they got the crowd up on their feet and everyone looked to enjoy it. I had so much fun I loved it to bits keep it up roooock on. I love you Scott Weiland!!
Thanks to Tom: Fuckin' amazing show! The band was extremely tight and the intensity in the crowd was fucking immense. This show blew the previous one at the Kool Haus way out of the water, the band is sounding better than ever before. Hopefully they'll come back soon with their second album in tow!
Thanks to Sharpie: All I have to say is that if there was ever a point in my life where I didn't believe in god, I'm sorry, cuz last night I saw 5 of them play the greatest rock and roll show in the world....rock is back and here to stay!
Thanks to Kyle: The wait outside for floor tickets was a pain but it was all worth it. From the opening lick Velvet Revolver kicked major ass.
Thanks to mckaganbabe: This was the most amazing show!! The sound was great, the band was incredible, too bad they were held up I'm sure it sucked ass as much for them as it did for us, but they made it they played a great show, I've got some memories to last a lifetime!! Hope to see them again soon. Velvet Revolver you rock!!!!! xoxox
Thanks to Mike: Great show, started 2 hours late. Too much GnR, but 1 GnR song is too much. Not enough STP.
Thanks to Dan Croll: After the 2 hour delay, it was great. Scott was on a mission. Slash, Duff and the crew were outstanding. Best tune of the night was No More, No More. Had a smokin' time.
Thanks to Axel Who: Just simply fuckin amazing. Rock and fuckin roll.
Thanks to Jeff Ashton: I had a fucking amazing time tonight. I went to the Toronto show in May,and although it had a unique chemistry that could never be re-produced, tonight's show just blew it away. Sure they could have used a different set list from the May show, but this time being able to sing along with every song made such a difference.
I was dead center at the front on the rail (right in front of Scott for Used To Love Her) and the sound balance was perfect. All the members pulled out amazing performances and you can really tell that they've become tighter as group over the past couple months. I can't wait for them to return, hopefully with a follow up to Contraband.
Thanks to jazzybaby: Band was late cause of customs in the US. Scott blamed them and ranted about how it's a free fuckin rockin society....etc and then them sucka's rocked out. My Review..if your late...stay and play a different set list then the last 5 cities man. Lol anyway sound was subpar...the beer was way good. And the music and band was wickedly good. I kept screaming out of my taxi at 11:30pm to people to "teach your children rock and roll" cause we need to see band's like their ilk again and again...thanks buddies. BTW I saw GNR in Moncton NB open for The Cult 16 years ago before anybody knew who they were and people threw shit at them......until they played "Paradise City" that broke the mold. I knew then I was witnessing rock history. Everybody stopped with gapping mouths and knew this was the best line-up they had ever seen. It took a year later after I only found one record shop that sold a GnR album for them to break through with Sweet Child of Mine....all I can say is that it was cool to see Duff and Slash again this many years later. All of you....thank you for putting it all out. I'm slowly going to sleep with STP playing in the background. I hope and pray if you all come out with another album that you drop the GnR shit and STP shit and rock out with your own ubber fuck......luv ya. Great show you rock gods heheh.
Thanks to Steve: Not sure where to start. I'm sure lots will mention it, but the band's equipment got held up at the border since they decided they were giong to inspect all of it. For this reason they didn't open gates for a good hour or so later than they were supposed to and still yet another 20-30 min before they actually let you get onto the floor or into your seats since they were still setting up the stage and stuff. Because of the delays the openning band didn't get to play, just Velvet Revolver.
I believe it was the same setlist as Chicago, except we also got No More, No More in there too. They did a nice extended version of Do It For The Kids and Matt did a little drum solo before Mr. Brownstone. I was pretty much right at the front of the stage all night and the sound seemed to be good. There wasn't any super memorable moments, just a classic rock 'n roll show as Scott would say.
