Thanks to Gavin Allen from South Wales Echo: NO matter how many bare tattooed torsos and leather trousers Velvet Revolver put on show they couldn’t top the costume choice of Perry Farrell, frontman with support act Satellite Party.

The gentleman deviant of alt-rock oozed around the stage in his gold lamé jumpsuit and neck scarf – Elvis styled by Scissor Sisters Jake Shears – thrusting a metronomic pelvis at his beautifully sluttish backing singer.

It was brilliant theatre but as amusing as Farrell was (“I hope your ears are bleeding. In a nice way.”), when Scott Weiland came windmilling onto the stage, high on energy, the modest crowd erupted.

Velvet Revolver provided their own amusement when one punter sprayed Slash with water. He tutted and wiped his leather trousers dry but soon after guitarist Dave Kushner slipped on the wet patch and fell heavily on his back.

Upright, he grinned, and from then on the band played with the volume of a Concorde crash. From the explosion of Fall To Pieces to the bluesy crawl of The Last Fight, from upcoming second album Libertad, they hit every song like a punch to the stomach.

New single She Builds Quick Machines had fathoms of strength and Set Me Free spat voltage. In the second encore they covered Talking Heads’ Psycho Killer and gave a rapturously-greeted It’s So Easy before slithering into the night; masterfully precise and brutishly powerful.

YOU SAID:

“I’m a really big Slash fan and to see him close up like that was awesome..”
Dave Williams, 15, Mountain Ash.

“They were definitely worth the trip. The best gig I have seen in ages. They really kicked ass. I didn’t think much of the first band though.”
Keith Monkton, 30, Southampton.

Thanks to Mr Joshua: Went to see this one last night too. Very cool gig, maybe a little better than Hammersmith as it was a bigger arena and the sound wasn't overly harsh. Perry Farrell turned up with his new band and they were cool, Nuno was great on the guitar and he had a very nice scantily clad young lady frollicking around on the stage too. Set list was as per Hammersmith, got some more good photo's and some video footage, if I can work out how to get them on here I'll post them, unless one of you techie's out there can help me.

Thanks to Gareth: The show was off the hook man, VR were totally awesome giving so much back to the crowd! Their supporting acts kicked ass, especially the Zico Chain!

Thanx for the great show gents, you were all great! Rock On!

Thanks to Andrew Channon: Wow best of all three dates I went to. (London, Cardiff, Manchester) standing right in front of Slash even got his cig butt and plectrum. Just 16 fuckin rocked. Slash's 2 solos in that song are his best for long time Scott's vocals are also knockout.

Thanks to John Dennison: After seeing VR at the same venue 2 years ago and having a fantastic night, I looked forward to this one like a antsy teenager with a stiffy. I couldn't wait to leave work, get on the piss early and then make my way to the CIA and see Slash and the boys do their stuff again. Glad to say that musically they didn't disappoint.

It was worth the price of admission alone to hear 'Do It For The Kids', 'Sucker Train Blues', 'Big Machine' and 'Slither' again. Some of the new songs sounded really good, some I thought were a bit flat. 'Let It Roll' seemed to have real punch and attitude and got the gig off to a great start. 'The Last Fight' had a cracking flow to it and a brilliant solo, got a feeling thats gonna be one of the best songs on Libertad. 'She Builds Quick Machines' rocked far harder live than its version on the cd single. Can't help thinking that the Record Exec's have toned that one down a bit.

Unfortunately the rest (She Mine, Get Out The Door, Just Sixteen) didn't seem all that, I'm hoping that they will grow on me when Libertad arrives. Always a bit of a bummer hearing songs for the first time in the heat of a concert, with the JD and tequila swilling around. Still, its the risk the band takes having everyone standing around staring when you do a tour before the album comes out. Unexpectedly I thought the best song of the concert was 'Fall To Pieces', which also for me contained the highlight of the night, Slash, right in the middle of the stage on top of a speaker/light thing playing the solo flawlessly. Fucking brilliant.

I Know I'm in the minority here but didn't like the cover of 'Wish You Were Here'! The rest of the crowd loved it, all singing away waving their arms, but I just couldn't get into it. I would have much preferred 'You Got No Right', that was amazing on their first tour, why has it been dropped?! At least Slash kept the jam solo in with the double necked guitar. No complaints with 'Psycho Killer', a quirky choice but Slash rocked hard on the Travis Bean, although no one else at the front seemed to know the song! Note to Youtube viewers, if you see a part of that song on there from Cardiff, I'm the dickhead pogoing at the front. The only one. And I hate Talking Heads too....

Being an old school G'n'R fan I was hoping to get at least one oldie, so 'It's So Easy' went down a storm. Would love to get a new cover of anything else from 'Appetite' in the future, but would understand if they are not interested in playing that stuff anymore.

I definitely enjoyed the concert although the boys didn't seem to enjoy themselves as much as I've seen it the past. There was very little interaction between themselves and even less with the crowd. Scott only spoke to us briefly a couple of times (some standard introductions to the songs I've seen before) and Slash sadly not at all. It was the icing on the cake last time when Slash at the end of 'Bodies' thanked us all for coming out and said they'd definitely come back to Cardiff again. (After having bottles and a pint chucked at him tonight by some fucking penises he might decide not to bother next time). Tonight they all looked like they'd had a row just before they'd come out, rarely did you see anyone back to back, and only Dave Kushner seemed to be getting off on it. Again I'm in the minority here but I thought they were better two years ago, that concert had a hell of a lot more energy and spark. Ah well. What was missing with on stage dynamism was made up for with musical quality.

I don't want to come off as being too negative here, I wasn't disappointed and I can't think of another rock band I'd rather jump up and down for an hour and a half to. Scott's voice has definitely got much stronger, and the whole band played tightly and noisily throughout. However like someone else more or less said about the London show, I just got the feeling they phoned this one in a bit, and apart from Kushner the band didn't openly get into the whole thing as much as I've seen them do at other gigs. Maybe they've all got used to each other now and the spark and buzz of playing live together is wearing off a tad. Maybe they had one eye on the Download festival the next day and didn't want to knacker themselves out before that. Maybe I just took way too much acid as a youth and don't know what the piss I am on about. Whatever.

Definitely R'n'F'n'R though. And 'Superhuman' as an unexpected bonus! The best and the only true loud rock and fucking roll band out there today.

Thanks to Pete: Amazing show! They surprised me when they played Big Machine!, Awesome! This show proved that Slash has still got it!!!

Thanks to Owain: Amazing show! A must see for all rock n' roll fans. VR are one of the only TRUE rock n' roll bands around. They play so well together. Thumbs up to all the band. One of my personal highlights of the show was It's So Easy - fucking brilliant. Please come back soon VR!

Thanks to Rhian: The gig was fantastic and I was so glad I was there, kida pissed I got injured but it's to be expected.

Thanks to LikeSoldiersDo: I gotta say, saw them in January '05 at the same venue and I think they were ten times better this year -- and thats saying something! =D

A great show, amazingly played and the audience loved those guys and quite rightly too. Can't wait for the new album and hope the guys come back to England/Wales soon!

Thanks to Nathan Griffiths: Last time they played there Duff tripped in Sucker Train Blues, this time however not sure which song Dave Kushner fell flat on his back during one song as he lost his footing on the blocks at the front of the stage. Still it was an amazing gig apart from some assholes behind me who chucked water at Slash, not once but twice which I think pissed him off a bit.

Thanks to Chantelle Thorogood: Fucking ace. Slash even out floyded Floyd.

Thanks to Clive Newton: I noted the setlist put up. I certainly didn't remember Headspace as one of my fave tunes off Contraband and disappointed it wasn't played (I'd checked out the Hammersmith set before I went and it was as that plus Superhuman and Just 16??).

I don't know what Spay is? I think this is definitely Get Out The Door which was played as identifying the new tracks I was looking for identifiable chorus repeat words. This track I think Scott mentioned was about women of the night in LA, maybe the rough ones and hence Get Out The Door.

The new tunes are very short and to the point and ended when you least expect them to - i.e. no long drawn out endings. Scott didn't talk that much during the show and sadly Slash said nothing at all - maybe them clearly defining their roles this tour. It was very noticeable that when Slash took up a pose or close to the front of the stage, over a hundred camera phones came out to catch this wonderous event. Unlike the 2005 tours, Slash wore the Mr Brownstowne hat all through the show.

No TV screens this tour like 2005 indoor shows and lighting rig is very basic. Sadly some idiots threw their remains of their beer at Slash on a couple of occasions at the start when he ventured to the edge. I also I thought I saw Dave slip over during 5th or so song although the actual event was sort of obscured behind the VR banners and the amp stacks (Cardiff IA's stage is SO small, they have to put the amp stacks at 90 to the norm at the front of the stage. The actual floor space the band had to work with was very small indeed - kind of what headliners leave the support bands with.

An awesome gig though although a lot of the audience were stunned during Psycho Killer as virtually no reaction to it apart from a small area of fans at the front of the stage.

Thanks to Natalie: The show was fucking incredible!! Much better than when I went to see them last time they played Cardiff (and that show was mindblowing!) Was front row, stood directly in front of Slash all night, it was amazing to be so close to them! Got some really great photos. The set list was great, wish they would have played Sex Type Thing (as it's my fave) instead of Vasoline but I can't really complain can I? Loved it when Slash leaned over and told us they were gonna play It's So Easy next - cutest thing ever! My highlight was definately getting winked at by Duff and getting his plectrum! Can't wait for them to come back or for the new album, will unbelieveable!!! xxxxx

Thanks to Ashlee: The show was absolutely mindblowing. Slash rocked his heart out and Scott is as amazin live as on cd. The support definately got the crowd going but everybody went nuts as soon as they came on and they carried on rockin the crowd. Fall To Pieces is the best song they played yet Slash's guitar solo on the 1st encore was absolutely amazing with an 12 string guitar. Definitely going next year!!!!

Thanks to Daniel Roberts: My god! Speechless! I was expectin it 2 be amazin! But it was much betta than that! Slash was amazing! I can't believe how good he is! The atmosphere was electric ! 2 people were fightin by me down @ the front lol it was nuts! Contraband was amazing but this new album will be the best! Can't wait. Can't believe how good Scott's vocals have gone either compared to when I saw them in 2005! They are class! This new album phwarr! Class! xxxxx

Thanks to Jon Howcroft: The band created huge amounts of energy and fed off the energy which they in turn received from the crowd. Scott's vocal were perfect and the band played an electrifying set.

Thanks to Nicky Owen: Killer concert and all the new stuff really kicked ass and was a welcome surprise that the band played Superhuman as I didn't realise they were playing that on the tour. I saw VR the last time they played Cardiff and the whole band really gel and have kicked it up a notch on for the new album.

Thanks to Dani: Velvet Revolver fucking rocked last night!!! LMAO @ Dave fallin over !! Whoever threw water @ Slash twice your a complete and uter cock, what a dick!! Awesome gig though!!!!!

Thanks to Ross: The concert was the best I've seen them do so far! The set list kicked ass and it just rocked in a whole! Slash was immence as always and his solos were out of this world! Wish You Were Here was my highlight of the night, it was incredible and Pink Floyd would have been extremly proud of this cover! It's not like VR at all but they owned the song and made it there own! Amazing night! Rock on!

Thanks to Jason: Well the show was out of this world better than last time I seen them here. The crowd were up for it.

Thanks to James: Revolver were amazing last night. Every track, every note... perfect. You felt you were in the presence of greatness. Vocals unbelievable!! Buy the album....get to a gig!!!!!
